Preliminary Task: Genre of our practice music video

When me and my group members sat together to discuss the genre of our practice music video, we all came up with different ideas. I'm personally a big fan of Hip-Hop and Pop music so I searched on YouTube what can be the best song for our shoot. I went through my playlists and so did my team members and we all were convinced to work on 'Pop' Music.

Pop is a genre of music that’s characterized by catchy melodies and repeated choruses. It also places a significant emphasis on rhythm. Pop is certainly a genre of music, but it’s a very broad one. Now there are some questions about this , why people like it, some different forms of it, and the reason why some think it’s not a music genre. Pop music is a popular style of music that’s played all over the world.

People like pop music for a multitude of reasons. For starters, pop music is super easy to sing along to. The lyrics are simple, and the melodies are catchy, which is all you need to sing along to a song.

Additionally, pop songs are usually quite relatable. Most pop songs feature themes like love, joy, and heartbreak, which are relatable for most people. Everyone likes to listen to songs that they can relate to as it touches their feelings. Beyoncé, Adele, and Justin Bieber are some of the most widely-acclaimed pop stars. Each of them has made it to the top charts more often than I can remember.

Other notable artists include Ed Sheeran, Dua Lipa, Katy Perry, and Taylor Swift. Of course, I also have to mention big names like Michael Jackson, Madonna, and Whitney Houston.

Now if we look at ourselves we needed to recreate such a music video which easily conveys a social message to the audience specially the youth and Pop was the only way to do so because in Pop the lyrics are easy to understand and one can sing through melodies as well. So it was decided to choose the pop genre.

Preliminary Task: Idea & Narrative Construction

It had to be a whole new experience for us to shoot a professionally made video with our team members. As this was our very first shoot, we had some edge to do mistakes and learn from them. The song that we chose for our practice shoot was 'Watermelon Sugar' by Harry Styles. It was a difficult song to shoot keeping in mind different aspects.

Idea:

If we talk about the music video of the song, the main idea that was being portrait was that the hero was enjoying the feels of watermelon and the summer evenings near a beach. He was on a some sort of summer trip. We had to display the idea similar to this. We have an upcoming trip of our college in winters and we thought this was the best chance to shoot the whole video. The main idea we are gonna show the audience is the enjoyment feels.

That could be further exaggerated by showing different things on the trip. The song brings vibe to the audience. We just have to explain that vibe more. This could be followed by some positive feelings as well. The audience shouldn't feel bored while watching the video.

Narrative Construction

The narration can be started from the interactions of the actors in the video. Some beautifuland exciting elements can be shown. The trip was destined to the city of mountains, some greenery could reflect the emotions of the lyrics. Attractive scenes in the video could open up the minds of the audience and ideas could flourish in. The whole music video would be based upon a central theme. Some happy faces and some new faces could boost up the performance of the music video. The camera to focus every inch of detail in surroundings.

Auditions: there were no auditions taken as I didn't need any special actors to act in the video i just had to film my surroundings and my friends doing enjoying their activities

Preliminary Task: Learning Outcome

it was our first shoot that we did in our Alevels. we didn't know much about editing or shooting as it was our time and I think we did pretty good. we learned the basics of shooting how to take different shots. how to work as a team and how to use time in a proper way. we took the same shots at least 2 to 3 times so it would be easier to edit later and we could improve our mistakes in the first shots. we also realized that compared to a professional shoot our shoot wasn't that up to the mark.

Preliminary Task: Our Video

As discussed earlier the main idea that was being portrait in the music video that we decided to recreate was that the hero was enjoying the feels of watermelon and the summer evenings near a beach.
